As this project, the building of a Gingery Lathe, goes along I will be adding photos of the lathe under construction, the first parts will be cast this week (9/4-9/8/2000) these will be the feet and bed for the ways, I may also cast the cross slide this week too if I have time;])
Well the castings were done but not quite in the order that I had thought! Indeed the feet were the first things cast, but the bed had to wait till the 6/10/2000. So to date I have cast the mounting bases (feet), the bed, the cross slide carage, the cross slide, and the compound swivel base.
There are still about 10 or 12 things left to cast, I have to scrape the ways to paralel and cut the lead screw to length and all the other feed screws.
Well here are some photos of the different castings, some as cast and others are finished, the difference should be obvious.

Well this is one of the two mounting bases that I cast, this is prity much how they come out of the sand.

Here you can see the difference, the real difference, between as cast and finished. These are the two mounting bases that I need for this project.

Although this was only cast a couple of days ago, this was ment to be the second part to be cast, this is how the bed casting looked when I shook the mould out.

And this after it was cleaned up, in this photo you can see the bed on the mounting bases.
